Esteleth stepped foreward and stared into the bowl, then back at Laurelin. She reached out and touched the older Elf's arm, a simple gesture of compassion. She turned back to the pensive, her eyes full of curiosity.

Memories instantly hit Estel, and surged through her like a chain of electricity. She felt like she was falling into galaxies of stars, as she saw thousands of years worth of memory. It soon all fell into place-this elf looked so aged because she was indeed, old. She had also chosen mortality.
Esteleth saw battles and warriors. A tall elven King with a mighty spear. ..Gil-Galad was an elven King, of who the Harpers sadly sing... Laurel had met Gil Galad. She had been in battle with him.
Estel ran through memories of a quest to find the shards of an ancient weapon. Then a man, Logan, meeting Laurel for the first time. Love, growing between them. They had children together.
Then Estel saw a castle, in a strange new world. This castle was a school. Estel saw it's students, and it's teachers, and then it's Headmistress. An aging mortal woman, who always wore a tartan shawl--the exact shade as the strip around Laurel's arm. Laurel and this woman, Minerva as she was called, were friends.
Then there was fear, and whispers of a deadly enemy. A long and bloody battle, and a final stand amid broken bricks, tumbled trees and dust. Laurel dueling, Minerva dueling also, or thats what it looked like-but not with swords-with sticks of wood that shot beams of light-and a man in wispy, black robes with an evil feel to him fighting with them.
Estel saw it in what seemed like slow motion.
A swish of a cloak. A high, cold laugh. A shout. A jet of green light. And then Laurel's terrible, awful scream, as Minerva, her best friend in the whole world, fell. Seconds later, Laurel's husband, Logan, was rounded on.
Esteleth knew what happened next. And then she saw the inevitable, and the last drop of once merry, dancing light in Laurel's eyes go out forever.
Esteleth saw just a few more memories. A funeral. Laurel burying her husband, her children, Minerva, and a few others. She was Headmistress.
Esteleth saw an office, with portraits of people in strange clothes on the wall. Portraits that moved. She saw Laurel, broken, dropping her quill and raising her eyes to the portrait of Minerva, and asking in a voice that was full of unbearable pain- "Why?!"
Finally, Esteleth saw Laurel leaving the school in the dead of the night, a stormy, rain-soaked night in December. She saw the last sight of it as Laurel must have--a single, white marble statue.
Lucius Malfoy...why are all the bad guys so...fangirl-able?

Tears were in Esteleth's eyes when she looked away from the bowl. She blinked them away, then glanced at Laurelin. She was silent for a few minutes, but the sorrow and compassion in her eyes were evident. "Wow," she whispered at length, not knowing what to say.

Laurel bows her head. "She was everything to me. My true confident, and the one person who I could completely relate to. She was there, when my husband, as much as I loved him, couldn't be. But then she was gone."
